Harley-Davidson Road Glide “Overkill”

Maybe it’s going back for thirds on Thanksgiving or sitting through a second trilogy after the original Hobbit movies. Some might even think it’s those over-the-top video game ads featuring Kate Upton. For Jerry Covington of Covingtons Customs in Woodward, Oklahoma, overkill might just be a 2014 Harley-Davidson Road Glide transformed into a beast of a bike.

A Custom Take on a Discontinued Classic

You’re probably thinking, “Wait, a 2014 Road Glide?” Yes. When Harley-Davidson discontinued the Road Glide after 2013, Jerry wasn’t ready to let it go. Instead, he took a 2014 Street Glide and reimagined it as a Road Glide. But that wasn’t enough. Jerry upped the ante with a 113-inch custom-built engine, a Trask Turbo system, a Baker seven-speed transmission, and air suspension for both the front and rear.

Power-Packed Performance

With all those upgrades, Jerry’s creation isn’t just about looks. It produces a whopping 210 horsepower on race fuel. On regular gas, it still churns out 180 horsepower—nearly three times the output of a stock 103-inch engine. Without the turbo? It drops to 135 horsepower, which is still more than impressive.

According to Jerry, the bike rides like a dream: “It’s like a Cadillac. It’s powerful, smooth, and everything works well together.”

Attention to Detail

Power aside, this bike is a showstopper. Covingtons Customs’ signature engraved detailing adorns the metallic components, turning them into works of art. Add in a sound system featuring four Hertz SPL 8-inch speakers powered by 1,000 watts, and you’ve got a bike that’s as loud as it is bold.

But Jerry’s build isn’t just for display. He proved its reliability by riding 1,000 miles during the Hot Bike Tour. Starting the tour with only 29 miles on the odometer, Jerry had zero issues during the ride.

A Milestone for Covingtons Customs

This custom build marks 25 years of Covingtons Customs’ craftsmanship. Even after reaching such a milestone, Jerry and his team show no signs of slowing down. The shop continues to churn out custom baggers, introduce new models, and expand its online catalog with over 75 new parts.

Over-the-Top Inspiration

Jerry’s Road Glide “Overkill” serves as a reminder that no dream is too ambitious when it comes to customizing your ride. When the time comes to create your own over-the-top build, remember Jerry’s philosophy: you can never have too much of a good thing.
